WHAT IS AN MOUNTAIN GUIDE
The role of Mountain Guide as defined by law (2 January 1989, n.°6) is the only professional who can operate in the mountains undertaking the following:
- guiding you on excursions and ascents both on rock and ice or while canyoning
- guiding you on ski mountaineering and skiing ascents
- instruct in the various techniques of mountaineering, ski mountaineering and Rope Access
The title of Mountain Guide – Mountaineering Expert represents the pinnacle of training and professional development. This figure is framed in the intellectual professions. This means that to exercise this profession one must be enrolled in a registertherefore having successfully the required training, be enrolled in a Regional College and, very importantly, having taken out civil liability insurance that protects the professional and his clients. The Mountain Guide-Mountaineering Master is part of the U.I.A.G.M/IFMGA (International Union of Mountain Guide Associations).
