Ice climbing is a sport derived from mountaineering and climbing. It consists of climbing, with the basic aid of ice axes and crampons, and with the use of other materials, on ice formations such as ice couloirs and goulotte or seracs, in high mountains or on icefalls in medium mountains. Belaying can be done on the ice itself using ice screws.
