The Makalu Base Camp Trek (4870m) is considered one of the most challenging and exciting itineraries in the eastern region of Nepal, an ideal opportunity for adventure enthusiasts to explore unspoilt areas of the Himalayas and observe the unique culture and lifestyle of the people still living isolated at the highest altitudes. Although it is not so far from Everest, the Makalu region has not yet been discovered by mass tourism and is therefore little frequented by hikers, which means that the trails are still quiet, uncrowded and nature still intact. The Barun Arun valley is home to more than 650 types of birds and over 800 varieties of butterflies as well as a refuge for a rare and endangered species such as the Panda. With this trip we will enter a still authentic Nepal, that of the Makalu-Barun Park, discovering all the landscapes that characterise the true heart of this land: rhododendron forests, Himalayan pine forests, glacial lakes, Sherpa villages that seem to belong to the past. As we ascend in altitude, the views will change constantly, first along the spectacular ridge that takes us over several passes over 4000 metres, and then along the Barun Valley, a jewel set between snow-capped peaks and rocky walls furrowed by a myriad of waterfalls, a nature that will not fail to thrill us every day. The Makalu Barun National Park will offer us the unforgettable views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, the Chamlang, Peak 3, Peak 5, Yaupa Himal, Everest, Kanchenjunga and, isolated and majestic, Makalu itself (8463m), first climbed in 1955 by Lionel Terray, (author of \"The Conquerors of the Useless\") and Jean Couzy.<\/p>\n
