Apuan Alps, Monte Forato, '38 Special'.

38 SPECIAL DRILLED MOUNT,

Roberto Vigiani, Grazia Magiani, Piero Gianfranceschi, August 1995

The attack can be identified by an old yellow arrow drawn on the wall. It is a classic style climb opened with bolts, however, a few bolts have been added over the years. The result is, however, an averagely safe and very satisfying climb. Although no additional equipment is usually needed, it is still advisable to bring a hammer and a few pitons.

Access:

From the village of Stazzema, take the dirt road to the car park of the Forte dei Marmi refuge. Continue on foot to the mouth of the Porchette and where the path climbs decisively towards the mouth, abandon it to traverse towards the N until reaching the base of the evident O face of M. Forato.
Alternatively, you can ascend directly from the village of Cardoso below (a little strenuous but more direct).
